Month's End Stats: March 2017

Follow

I set my goals higher than I ever have before my little Etsy shop, KFPrints, in March 2017. While I didn't quite reach my goals for the month, I did have a nice increase from February 2017, and a HUGE leap from March of last year!

I got exactly ten more sales than I did in February and that's very exciting! And look at that measly one sale I got all month last year! Definitely an improvement!

What I Focused on In March:
  • I listed or renewed at least one new item every single day, though often I listed several.
  • I spent a lot of time promoting through my social media business accounts for KFPrints, including InstagramTwitterFacebook, and Pinterest.
  • I spent an extra focus on building my Pinterest account which has brought in quite a bit of extra traffic! I've had a lot of fun expanding that platform and it's proving to be one of the most lucrative. I gained over 450 new followers, had my items repinned countless times, and even joined a group board and started one of my own.
  • I began to mess around with my Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in the shop. Just a few listings to get a feel for how they would do, but still a start.
  • I also began making images so I could use all five of the slots for descriptive photos. I'm nowhere near close to finished with that project, but about 30 listings were updated with all five photos used. I think in April, this will really help business. Not only are there more ideas of how to use my prints, but the images are all vertically inclined and perfect for pinning on Pinterest.
My social media accounts grew quite a bit in March, especially Instagram and Pinterest. My Instagram hit 1,350 followers this month, and Pinterest topped off at 513!

I had a goal to get a sale every day in the month of March and fell a bit short, but I still saw growth in all areas of my shop and in social media as well. I will ultimately call March a major victory!

Gaining Followers on Instagram: Case Study Results

At the beginning of February 2017, I decided I was going to try a few tips and tricks that I had found online on how to build and grow my Instagram followers for my business Instagram account that I started in mid January 2017. (Shameless plug alert!) You should check out my account and follow me!

My starting stats:

Not the most impressive of numbers, but it was a start!

Here's what I did this month:
  1. I designed images specifically formatted for Instagram. Every image was square and had the same theme so that my profile feed had a cohesive look, like a store front. Even images of myself or my family were edited to match the theme of my Instagram account.
  2. I followed similar accounts with products and images similar to my own. This helped me see the tags they were using, and connect with them, and also their followers.
  3. I liked as many photos that appeared on my feed as I could. Though I couldn't always like every single photo due to the time demands of being a mom and running a shop, I liked as many as I could. (Stationery biking and social media go hand in hand! Man, I burned some calories and liked a LOT of pictures.)
  4. I sincerely commented on at least 5 posts daily, though I aimed for more. I'm not talking about cheesy, insincere comments like "That's pretty." or "Cool." I gave heart felt comments such as "I love the colors in this photo! They really bring out the product you're displaying and make it stand out! That print is absolutely gorgeous!" etc.
  5. I joined two loop giveaways with other accounts.
  6. I posted at least three new images daily with well thought out descriptions.
  7. I made use of tags that match my brand, shop, and images to help others find my account.
All of these things seemed to help me grow my followers! By the 21st, before my first loop giveaway started, I'd grown my following from 52 followers to 206 followers. That's quite an impressive jump just using the basic tips that I'd gotten from almost everyone. Having nice pictures, posting frequently, engaging with other users, and using tags really made a difference!

But the fun part was joining those loop giveaways! (Curious to know what a loop giveaway is, and how it works, go to this post!) I gained a total of 330 new followers in just a few days! It was a really fun and rewarding experience and one I plan on doing again.

Here are my stats after a month of doing these 7 tips!

Drum roll please!

I gained almost 500 followers in one month doing these tips! My engagement went up a lot as well, with an average of 26 likes a post, and 5 comments a post!

My sales in my shop, KFPrints also doubled in February from what I'd done in January, with an increase of visits to my shop from Instagram!

I plan on using these same tips every month as I continue to grow my Instagram account, and my business!

Growing a Pinterest Following: A Case Study

I have spent many an hour pinning to multiple boards with wild abandon, but the inner workings of Pinterest have always been a bit of a mystery to me.

Be honest, how many times do you see the same pin, or multiple pins by the same person in a single search? Have you ever gone to look at another person's profile and they have 15,000+ followers? How? How do they do that?

As an avid USER of Pinterest, I can definitely see the benefit of having an active and successful Pinterest account. It is completely visually based, and free, which makes it a powerhouse for marketing your business and your blog! But I have never ventured past the USER category of Pinterest into the MARKETING POWERHOUSE category of Pinterest.

My Current Stats:

(These stats were found using the analytics feature on the Pinterest Business pages.)

These aren't terrible stats, but while compared to a company or blog with over 1,000 followers, or better yet, 15,000 followers, my reach is pretty small.

So here's the plan:

Over the next 31 days, the entire month of March 2017, I'm going to use these 7 tips and tricks I've found while combing the wide array of information on Pinterest.

You can also check out my "Pinterest Tips" board on Pinterest if you'd like to see more than just the tips I plan to use this month.

  1. I will pin every Etsy listing I have. This is a pretty standard tip across the board. Whether you are trying to promote your products, small business, or blog! Pin everything! Don't let a post or product slip under the radar. Once my blog launches at the beginning of next month, I will be doing the same with every blog post as well.
  2. I will follow at least five new accounts every day. Why is this important? To extend your reach, at least in the beginning, it is important to make connections!
  3. In addition to pinning my own pins, I will pin at least 5 pins that aren't my own daily. Just like on other social media platforms, it is important to share other's work and engage with the community.
  4. I will attempt to join a collaboration board. Some of these boards can be pretty exclusive, but by joining a collaboration board, you not only make community connections, you also promote yourself to the other members followers.
  5. I will daily spend some time in my home feed. Just like you would on Instagram or Twitter, engage with the people you are following! Comment on their posts. Like their pins. And repin their pins if they are relevant to you!
  6. Weekly, I will search my new followers! I will follow the good ones that pin things I am interested in.
  7. I will design images that are Pinterest friendly and schedule them to post frequently. Longer images that are more visible in the vertical feeds, and keep my images relevant.
Here's to growth and success!
